Other Characters:
Charles Grant (Worker at Fox and Hound Tavern)
Name: Jenna Dunn
Age: 14
Status: Single.
Appearance:
Jenna is slender, and just starting to blossom into
womanhood. The curves of her hips and breasts are noticeable, but in
her innocence, she doesn't seem to have noticed them yet herself.
She has long, thick, rich brown hair that she usually wears tied back
out of her way, and deep brown eyes. She is a beauty, but life has
already given her a skittish look, so that when you glance at her,
you are left with the impression of a nervous little bird who is
about to flit away.
Personality:
Jenna is very quiet and shy, afraid of her own shadow,
and especially afraid of anger and loud voices. But if you get past
that, she's intelligent and eager to learn. She sings as sweetly as
a bird at sunrise. She likes music, flowers, and other such cheerful
things, but there's something melancholy about her also. She laughs,
loves, and hurts with her whole heart.
Occupation: Jenna is a Withington housemaid.
Background:
Jenna grew up as just another mouth to feed in a large
brood of farm children. Her mother had tried to teach her and the
other girls their manners, but the father was a drunk and a brute who
was just as likely to give the back of his hand as he was to offer a
greeting. After the death of the mother during childbirth, the
father turned savagely on Jenna, for the girl and her mother had
looked strikingly alike. Plagued by the bottle and drowning in debt,
the father had started to scatter his children to their fates. A
kindly neighbor woman, perhaps one who knows Laura Maude or
something, had taken pity on Jenna, who had always been bright and
quick and kind. The neighbor would hate to see the girl beaten to
death by her drunken father or turned out to become a prostitute. So
she takes her to the Withington house, hoping to get her a humble
position there.
Peers' Opinion:
Jenna is young and beautiful, so many of the male
servants might be attracted to her. She could easily fall prey to
cruelty or be led into trouble by her docile nature.

Name: Mildred Baxter
Age: 41
Status: Single
Appearance:
Mildred is tall and stocky for a woman, strongly built
from years of hard work. The reddish brown curls that must have once
been her crowning beauty are now graying, but there is usually a
spark of laughter in her eyes. Her face is lined from countless
hours in the sun. She is always dressed simply and neatly. She has
a thick, clearly visible scar that starts at her chin and disappears
under the collar of her dress. When she is distressed or deep in
thought, Mildred tends to rub the scar on her chin without knowing
that she's doing it.
Personality:
Mildred is a practical, no-nonsense woman and a hard
worker. But she has a sunny disposition that doesn't interfere with
her efficiency. She does not approve of disrespect, gossip, or loose
morals, but she tends to attract those who need a motherly figure to
confide in and depend on. She takes charge easily in a crisis and
does what needs doing, and she never raises her voice or loses her
composure. Her big heart is a poorly kept secret at times.
Occupation:
Mildred started out as a humble kitchen maid at the age
of thirteen, and she has served faithfully over the years in several
houses, each one slightly better than the last, till now she is the
cook for the Withingtons.
Background:
Mildred grew up as a country girl, working hard and
soaking up a childhood of sunshine, fresh milk, and loving
discipline. Her mother died suddenly when she was thirteen, and she
took a place as a kitchen maid to help her aging father support her
twin brothers, who were six years younger than she was. The boys
grew up to be fine soldiers, and Mildred had gotten herself
established in the kitchen by the time they were grown. She was
married for a short time to a farmer, and gave birth to a son. But
her husband was killed in a tragic wagon accident, and her little boy
died of scarlet fever as a tot. She buried her father fifteen years
ago and has been alone except for the rare visits from her younger
brothers, but she always manages to find those who need mothering.
It's in her blood.
Peers Opinion:
Most people respect Mildred for her practicality and
her kind heart. However, women above her on the social scale,
whether they be servants higher up in the household or the ladies of
the manor themselves, are sometimes suspicious of her because she is
well-liked and not given to drama or hysterics. Her quiet authority
is definitely to be reckoned with, and that can sometimes feel
threatening to her female betters, though she isn't one to be
undignified or purposefully overstep her bounds.

Name: Eugenia Brigstocke
Age: 15, very nearly sixteen
Status: Single, not yet out
Appearance:
Eugenia inherited her father’s height, much to the horror of her dressmaker, who insists that by the time she is of age to attend her first ball she will be too tall to fit properly into any fashion, no matter what it will be by then. At not-quite sixteen, she stands nearly five feet, eleven inches tall. While she might have inherited height from her father, her figure is as willowy and graceful as her mother’s. With hair the color of cinnamon, and green eyes with flecks of blue and gold within them, Eugenia could be quite lovely when she grows up, if she’d only stop being so self-conscious about her height and stand tall instead of slouching to hide what she sees as a great defect within herself.
Personality:
Eugenia is more likely to be seen within the confines of the library than anywhere near a social engagement. While she is a kind young lady, with a soft heart for anyone who is suffering, she would much rather keep her own counsel than visit the younger daughters of her father’s friends, whom she finds vain and spoiled. While not exactly shy, she doesn’t speak often in front of strangers, until she gets a “feel” for them. Once she is comfortable around a person, she can become quite the conversationalist. She becomes quite protective of those few people that she sees as good, honest people, no matter what their class or station in life Because of her life with her father, she has become readily adaptable to any situation, taking situations as they come without becoming overwrought.
Family Relation: She is the daughter of Lady Withington’s sister, Lydia who married Captain James Brigstocke.
Occupation: Nobility
Background:
Eugenia was born to Captain James Brigstocke and his wife, Lydia. James was home when Eugenia was born, doing repairs to his ship as well as overseeing the other four ships in his fleet. He delayed leaving his beloved wife and their tiny daughter as long as he could because, frankly, the good Captain was smitten by both. When he finally returned to sea, it was with a heavy heart, a ship that was in better than new condition, and a wife and fourteen month-old daughter waving at him from the dock. He’d begged Lydia to bring their daughter and travel with him, but she’d insisted that the two of them would only get in his way and had promised she’d be waiting for him on the docks when he returned from his voyage. She didn’t get to keep her promise. When James returned eighteen months later, it was to an empty house and a letter on the kitchen table informing him of Lydia’s death in a carriage accident. His daughter was living with the housekeeper, who had decided to close down the house because without Lydia there to manage the accounts, it had become too much for one woman.
James rushed to the housekeeper’s modest little cottage and found his daughter wearing little more than rags, playing in the front yard with a puppy. After speaking with the housekeeper and promising to send her money for taking care of his child for several months, he took his daughter, who went along with him without protesting, even though she really didn’t seem to remember him. Over the next few days he learned how to care for a toddler and made a decision that should have been more difficult than it was; he’d leave his ship in the care of his first mate and stay home to care for his daughter himself, overseeing his business from land. As Eugenia grew, she took an interest in the business and he allowed her to help him from time to time, teaching her to read, write, and keep books, as well as eventually teaching her to cook and care for the house.
Nearly thirteen years later James faced his daughter again. Eugenia had grown up wealthy and just as privileged as any debutante, yet somehow had remained largely unspoiled. He’d never sheltered her from the world the way many of his business associates and friends’ daughters were, so it wouldn’t come as a complete shock to her when he made his latest announcement.
“Eugenia, I have to return to sea. I’ve lost two ships, and if I’m to remain in business, I’ll have to take the helm of my own ship again. I cannot afford to pay another captain who might or might not be capable. We have plenty of funds for anything we need, but if I fail to act, that may not always be the case. I have asked your mother’s sister, Lady Withington, to allow you to stay in her household. She has agreed. You shall be leaving Thursday morning.”
Eugenia only nodded solemnly because she’d known something like this would happen soon. Her eyes sparkled with tears as the aging captain held open his arms and she rushed into them for a bear hug. She didn’t recall Papa ever not being there, but if this was what he thought was best, she would do her best to make him proud.
James savored the moment; because this could be the last time he’d see his little girl before her aunt found her a suitable husband in a few short years. He’d stressed to his sister-in-law that if she made a match for his little girl, the man had better be capable of making her happy. Letting her go would be hard, but if he didn’t, he couldn’t provide her with the finances to give her a wider choice of potential husbands when the time came.
Peers Opinion:
Girls her age see her as a bit backward, but not enough to be nasty about her. The meanest thing they say is “Eugenia has her head in the clouds, quite literally” in reference to her height. Some adults think it a bit odd how much time she spends with a book in her hand and the term “bluestocking” has been whispered a few times in reference to her.

and her long hair is dark brown and almost always tied under a cap
or bonnet. Above her thick eyebrows in a small scar. At work she
either wears a light blue work dress, a gray work dress, or her
black and white uniform.

goes un-noticed. But once she is downstairs she is pure Cockney.

good spirit.

Along with best friend Eileen Lorrey she is one half of what the
rest of the staff simply calls "the Duo".
Peers Opinion:
Elsie's friendly manner and crude but charming humor
has made her many friends in the staff. Though her quick and loud
tongue does tend to give some of the older staff members heart
palpitations.

Her gentle and motherly manner makes her very popular
amongst the staff. No one ever worries about her.

Name: Emily Everett
Age: 19
Status: Single - Out
Appearance:
Emily just barely tops five feet in height. She has plenty of womanly curves while remaining slim. Her wavy auburn hair, exquisite ivory skin, and emerald green eyes assure her acceptance as one of the Diamonds of the Season.
Personality:
Emily would be the first to acknowledge that she can be a minx and a flirt. She is very serious about fashion, gossip, and husband hunting. She tends to be on the romantic side...encouraged in this by Minerva Press novels. She is good natured and very loyal to family and friends, but has a temper as fiery as her hair. Her most cherished dream is to reform and wed a rake.
Family Relation:
An indulgent, wealthy papa: Sir James Everett and a hen-witted maiden aunt who is playing chaperone: Eliza Everett
Occupation: Society "Miss".
Background:
Emily's mama was killed in a carriage accident when Emily was six. Sir James, although a loving parent, was often distracted by his business interests, and left Emily in the care of disinterested governesses. Emily spent later years in a genteel finishing school, but was sent home after several girlish escapedes. Emily took the Ton by storm during her first season, but was unable to bring any of her suitors up to scratch. She is determined that this season, her second, will also be her last as a single young lady.
Peers Opinion:
Emily is generally accepted in society, although some high sticklers spurn her. She is on good terms with most of the other debutants, but has no close friends. She has several suitors, but no one is courting her in earnest. Some matrons fancy that young Miss Everett will find herself in the center of a large scandal before the season is over.
Player: Brittney
Name: Georgette Williamson
Age: 18
Status: Single - first year out
Appearance:
Georgette is no beauty, but is pretty in a striking way. A lot of people say she looks like a pixie, being short and slim with wild red hair, a snub nose, mischievous smile, and bright green eyes.
Personality:
The best word to describe Georgette is mischievous. While in school she was always getting into trouble and coming up with schemes. However, they were always thought out well-executed schemes. Georgette is very friendly with everyone, but it takes a lot to gain her full confidence.
Family Relation:
Sister and Sister in Law (Her brother recently was married).
Occupation: Lady
Background:
Georgette grew up with her older brother Benedict on their father’s country estate in Wiltshire. She was very close to him and they spent most of their time playing outside. Often they were accompanied by his best friend James, who was like an extra brother to her. Despite going to separate schools and seeing each other no more than a few times a year the three of them stayed very close. Two years later Oxford Benedict joined the ton, and a year after that Benedict married one Miss Mary Smith. Now that she too is out of school, Mary has decided to assist Georgette in her come-out since her mother is not felling well in Bath.
Peers Opinion:
The Williams family has always been respectable but somewhat eccentric. A few of their numbers have married down for nothing more important than the heart, and most have had some small scandal in their history. Georgette is expected to be no different. Although she loves to cause trouble, she is far to smart to go over the line.
Player: Leah
Name: Sir James Nortin
Age: 23
Status: Eligible bachelor
Appearance:
Although James may not be handsome, he gives the impression of being so because of his self assurance and good physique. He is uncommonly tall and has sandy hair that is always covers his dark brown eyes.
Personality: While Georgette often came up with the plots, James figured out how to carry them out. He is a great strategist and very practical. After the war he has become much harder and more serious.
Family Relation: None
Occupation: Baron
Background:
James’s mother died birthing him, and his father cared little about him besides his being a fit heir, so he was mostly raised by his nurse. Because of his lack of family he quickly took to Georgette and Benedict Williamson. He excelled in school, especially Mathematics. Unlike Benedict, he did not join the ton after school. Instead he joined the army. After a year and a half of fighting he was shot in the leg and sent home.
Peers Opinion:
Most people are a little afraid of James. He gives the impression of being an impenetrable and arrogant lord. So naturally, young debutantes adore him. All men treat him with respect because they don’t want to get on his bad side.
Player:Leah

Name: Duke Damian Stone
Age: 33
Status: bachelor, on the look out for a bride
Appearance:
Damian is very tall and strong. Although he is hard
featured he is handsome in a dark sinister way. His hair is black
with a few strands of silver at his temples and his eyes are ice
blue.
Personality:
Like most good villians, Damian is rutheless and
merciless. However, he does have a few redeaming qualities. He takes
care of his own, always follows through with what he says (which can
also be bad), has a dry sarcastic sense of humor, and rarely looses
his temper. Instead he calmy plans how to vanquish anyone who stands
in his way or bothers him.
Family Relation: None
Occupation: Duke
Background:
Damian gew up in a very troubled household. His father
was a cruel ugly man who tricked his mother into marriage.
Consequently she hated him. Although she did not hold the same
loathing for their son, she did not love him despite all his
attempts to win it. She died when he turned ten during a stillbirth.
Shortly after Damian was sent to school. While there he quickly
learned that his rank, money, and size could get him whatever he
wanted. With no one to turn him towards the right path he quickly
followed in the footsteps of his father, who had also passed away.
His position as The Granite Duke was cast into stone (no pub
intended) when his betrothed abandoned him at the alter. Although he
had not loved her, he held her in affection and was devestated by
the blow to his pride. He tracked her down and called the man she
had run away with out. During the duel he killed the unfortunate
young man, and left her to the gossip and eventual expolsion of
society.
Because he was bored with London life he joined the army. Although
the french were afraid of him, so were many of the english. Not only
did Napolean become his enemy, but many of his fellow officers as
well. Sir James Hiansley was the one whom he grew to hate the most.
Seeing in the other what he could have been if he had love in his
life.
Now he is back in London looking for a bride. He realizes that he
needs an heir, but does not wish to comit the same mistake as his
father and mary an unwilling woman. So he is in need of either a
desperate and docile young woman or a guilible one whom he can
suduce.
Peers Opinion: Everyone is scared of Damian. Even the select few
that he calls friends or is loyal too are wary of him. Only the most
desperate of Mamas through their daughters his way.
Player: Leah

Name: Lady Amelia Upworth
Age: 25
Status: spinster
Appearance:
Amelia is beautiful in the classical sense. She is very
tall and stately with a slim but womanly build. Her hair is dark
brown, just a shade to warm for black. All the feemales on her
mother's side of the family have gray eyes, but hers are an unusual
icy shade that almost seems silver. Although her nose and face is a
tad too thin a lush red mouth that is at odds with her formal
appearance and large expressive eyes even it out.
Personality:
In her youth Amelia was slightly less austure, but she
has always been contained and lady like. Because she is her father's
heir she has always had many duties to fufill and it has dampened
any frivolouse feelings she ever had. Under her cold ulterior
Amelia is very kind to those less worthy, has a fine toned sense of
the rediculouse, and with the select few she calls friends is very
loyal and open.
Family Relation: Widowed Father and several cousins. If she does not
marry her cousin Antony will become Viscount of Oaksbury.
Occupation: Lady
Background:
Amelia was born after several failed attempts on her
parent's part. Despite her being a feemale they bothed loved her
immensly and treated her no different. In fact, many people think it
is due to the mascule responsibilites they gave her that she turned
out so unaproachable.
When she turned 17 she had her first season, and although she had
several offers, she accepted none. The next three season had the
same outcome. But during her third she met Damian Duke of
Winterhall. Although his proposal and manner held no affection, she
convinced herself that her love for him was enough.
But a week before their wedding she heard him talking about her with
a friend. After stating their marriage in coldy practicle terms he
called her a cold fish. Devestated Amelia decided to hurt Damian as
he had hurt her. She grabbed the first young available man she found
(who just happened to be Sir James) and begged him to run away with
her.
Unfortunely, Damian found out and called James out. He won then
abandoned Amelia. Despite using him, Amelia felt terrible about what
happened to James and did all in her power to make him popular
amongs the ton.
Now, years later, she is considered a spinster and rarely moves
around in society. Her father has not given up hope though and
continues to present her to friends. However, because of her title
she still restains some social power. Amelia spends most of her time
with her family and close friends. In a few years she plans to start
a household in Bath, but for now she depends on the hospitality of
her father and friends.
Peers Opinion: Before her failed betrothal Amelia and her family
were above all but the smallest gossip. Now she is more subject to
it, but her impecable manners and breeding made her infamy very
short. Now it is only whispered about among the highest sticklers
and gossipers.
Player: Leah
Name: Kimberly Amburgey
Age: 21
Status: widowed
Appearance:
Most people would consider Kimberly rather mundane, even slightly dowdy. At five feet, five inches tall, with hair the color of dark honey which is almost always pulled severely back, she gives the impression of being much older than she really is. Her eyes are a deep brown, almost to the point of being black when she is feeling down, which is almost constant. The only thing that might make Kimberly even remotely able to catch a gentleman’s eye is her smile- which for the past few years has grown to be an increasingly rare sight; while she still is no great beauty, she at least becomes “pretty” when she smiles.
Personality:
Kimberly has grown disenchanted with life. While mild-mannered and kind to others, she really doesn’t make much of an effort in society, or life, for that matter. While she won’t admit it to anyone, she is terribly lonely, which is why she keeps a rather substantial household staff, even though she and her brother who resides with her would do fine with only a few. Subconsciously she fears forming attachments because they always turn out badly. Since she gained independence when her husband died, she has become almost mercenary in dealing with her peers, always wondering what they want from her.
Family Relation:
Parents, three of four siblings deceased, as well as her husband, the eldest son of the Earl of Rosebury, Gavin Amburgey. One older brother still lives, although brain damaged from a high fever, which killed her other family members. Has a cousin, Claudia, who is married to an earl, Lord Abington.
Occupation: Widow of the future Earl of Rosebury. Daughter of a Baronet, Lord David Wilmington.
Background:
Kimberly grew up in a family of seven. Her father was rarely around, tending to his small, but profitable holdings. Unfortunately, he returned home when his wife and children were ill, and within a matter of days, lay in the ground with all but two of them, a victim of influenza. Kimberly had been fortunate enough to be visiting her grandparents when the terrible disease struck.
Her brother, Alistair, was sent to the grandparents’ home when he had recovered as much as he would. The much-changed nineteen year-old could no longer walk without aid, could not manage complete sentences, and flew into terrifying rages followed by sobbing like a child.
By the time Kimberly’s mourning period was over, she was nearly eighteen. Her grandparents arranged her marriage without benefit of a Season. Lord Rosebury was giving them a rather large sum of money to marry her off to his son, who had no interest in marriage or having a family, no matter how often his parents begged and threatened. Kimberly had agreed only because it was the only way they could afford a caregiver for Alistair, who was too difficult to handle at their advanced ages. If she had not gone, they would have committed him to an asylum.
She’d married Gavin, only to watch him depart right after the ceremony. He remained gone for weeks at a time, but when he returned he would bring her a gift to apologize, flowers, jewelry, or some other pretty bauble. He’d taken her to her room on the first night after his first return and sat her down, explaining gently that he was not interested in being a husband and father so he would not touch her. Just weeks before their first anniversary, he’d been killed in a fight in a brothel.
The day after her official mourning period was over, Kimberly’s father-in-law came to her, informed her that Gavin had left her very comfortably provided for and rather bluntly asked her to please leave his home. He’d gone on to say that she had failed as a wife and that was why Gavin had been killed. He also knew of his son’s vow not to touch her and offered to add fifty-thousand pounds to the settlement Gavin had left her to keep her mouth shut about the arrangement, to protect his late son’s reputation, as well as preserve the family’s dignity. Part of the agreement was that she had to find a male companion and rid herself of the “evidence” that her husband had been in name only.
Kimberly, who felt as if she had already been sold to the highest bidder once had taken the money and moved her few actual possessions out that very day. She’d bought a townhouse in London and has attened the few balls she’d been invited to, arriving late in the Season. She had not stayed overlong because she had tired of the pitying looks and titters behind fans. She’ d also moved Alistair into her house, hiring a gentle giant and his wife to care for him. Rebecca saw to feeding him and keeping him entertained and Gordon restrained him when necessary and saw to his private needs. Both worked to help him strengthen his limbs. Alistair’s temperament and overall health improved after that, although he would never again be “normal”.
Peers Opinion:
Although few actually know much about Kimberly, her reputation precedes her. Society’s terrible habit of giving nicknames to those who are unusual have led to her being called “Lady Tragedy”. She is invited to society functions, for the most part, to be treated as a curiosity.

Name: Miss Jocunda Goodworthy (Jocunda is Latin for full of joy and is a fairly horrid name, so everyone calls her Josie!)
Age: 24
Status:
Single. After having a small season in Bath when she was 18, Josie was betrothed, but to a card shark who left her at the altar. Referred to as THE SHAMEFUL EVENT! He had discovered that Josie's father would not bestow the hefty dowry if she married a man he disapproved of. Since he and Reverend Goodworthy had had sharp words over his lifestyle, the cad decamped!
This created a minor scandal which still raises pitying gossip every now and then.
Appearance:
Josie is a robust country woman. She has long, curly dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. Her figure is neither fashionably willowy and blonde or petite and gently curved. Her Welsh mother's antecedents are very evident in full bust, small waist, long legs and to her despair, a full bum! She's pretty, but not a ravishing beauty, which she accepts with good humor.
Personality:
Josie is lively, but gentle. Educated by her stern father whom she adores, she reads Greek myths and romances avidly, dreams of travel, and loves to draw. She's very energetic; walking miles is nothing to her and when no ones looking, she loves to swim. She's lousy at numbers and is reprimanded by her father when the household accoounts are awry!
She longs for love, but is realistic. She's no longer a debutante and she is attracted to strong, domineering men who are usually above her station. Her tongue gets her into trouble, but she is very amiable and helpful. She has a bad fault. Josie is a pleaser and rather easily cowed. (Perhaps she has a bullying cousin who still delights in tormenting her on visits knowing that he can get away with it?)
Josie spends her days drawing illustrations, running the household, visiting friends, helping her father as he demands and pretty much enjoying her freedom.
Family Relation:
Josie is the daughter of Reverend Marcus Goodworthy, a handsome, athletic man in his forties, a widower and very stern. The second son of the Marquise of Goodworthy, he presides over a comfortable living on his grandmother estates. Sometimes he leans a little too heavily on Josie, but out of worry for her future. He wants her to be stronger, like him. Over-protective and demanding.
Occupation: Josie is genteel and recieved in many circles because of her father's ancestory and her own pretty manners. She has a impressive dowry, is wary of being taken in, again.
Background:
After the disatrous betrothal, Josie went into seclusion in the country, the Cotswolds, to be exact. In the past few years, she has ventured back into society in small steps, but she shuns Bath.
Peers Opinion:
One can't help but like Josie. Older matriachs are pleased by her decorous manners and gentleness. The younger crowd like her wit and livliness. Men are intrigued by her past and sometimes try to lure her into the garden...or down the garden path, but scoundrals lurk everywhere! She can converse easily with the young matrons as she adores children. Fortunately, her grandfather's powerful connections contained most of THE SHAMEFUL EVENT and the cad was caught cheating at cards which scotched his character.

Age: 17
Status: single
Appearance:
Serena stands at 5'4 and weighs 123 lbs. She has flowing
black hair and brown eyes. She wears the useual maids uniform, blue or
gray and also her black and white formal one.
Personality:
Serena is a sweet girl who's had a sad life. She is a
determined girl that will do anything to insure that her sisters are
taking care of. There are some times she is bitter for her parents
dying, but she is all around, a kind girl.
Family Relation: none
Occupation: Amburgey housemaid
Background:
Serena was born on Febuary 17 to James and Malory
Matthews. Both worked for the Withingtons faithfully for many years
before having Serena. She was a very happy child, given her poor
lifestyle. Her parents wanted nothing more than to give her the best.
Serena mostly spent her time with her mother in the kitchen but on
those rare treats, she would ride with her father who was a driver for
the noble family.
Her sisters Catherine, Laura, and little Rachel came along sometime
later and the family seemed complete and happy.
But the family would not stay happy. When Serena was 12, her parents
had suddenly taken ill. As much as Serena and her sisters tried to
tend to them, they both died some months later. Serena was now alone
in the world, the only one who could care for her sisters. Determined
to insure that her sisters never went hungry, Serena took on a job as
an housemaid at the withington household, never taking charity or
asking for help.
Now seventeen, Serena does her job quietly with no regret, putting her
dreams on hold for her family.

around girls, since he has very little experience with
them, except at work.
Family Relation: He has a mother, and four brothers.
Occupation: Works at the Fox and Hound.
Background:
His father was in the Navy, but either died, or didn't

He is a good person to have around, but sometimes is

Name: Lord Anthony Upworth
Age: 33
Status: confirmed bachelor
Appearance:
Although his features could belong to a handsome man,
no one could mistake Anthony of being one. His once thick brown hair
is rapidly thinning and becoming lighter, his strait nose has turned
red and bulbous from drink, and his blue eyes are always watery or
red. Although he is tall and was once well formed, now he is given
to gout and his height is negligible because of bad posture. He
tries to make up for all this by wearing bright clothing that often
clash and do nothing but make him seem more washed out.
Personality:
Anthony has always fawned on those more powerful than
himself, and been cruel to those weaker. Although he is too weak and
lazy to go out of his way to hurt others, if it does not cause
himself any discomfort, he enjoys doing so. He has included himself
in a group of nasty society men, but they just tolerate his
presence, and would not mind seeing the last of him.
Family Relation: Cousin to Lady Amelia Upworth, and nephew to the
very ill Viscount Upworth
Occupation: Pleasure seeking Dandy
Background:
Anthony has never been denied anything, so hates any
form of discomfort. His parents were far too indulgent, but never
home, so he was raised by nobility weary servants. While in school
he did the very minimum of work, and nearly got evicted on numerous
occasions. While there he became friends with a bunch of selfish and
cruel boys who were led by the future Earl of Redsford.
Peers Opinion:
No one likes Anthony, A few tolerate him because of
his wealth (which is rapidly dwindling due to gambling and bad
investments) and his future title. A lot of people think him
something of a joke. Not assertive enough to be afraid of, but
desperate for others to be wary of him.

Name: Earl Tristran Redsford
Age: 35
Status: Two time widower on the search for a young new bride
Appearance:
Several people have likened Tristran to an Angel. He
has thick and slightly wavy gold hair, bright green eyes, and
perfect features. Although he is not overly tall or broad
shouldered, he still manages to demand attention. Many women,
including both of his former wives, have fallen under the spell of
his looks only to find his heart the opposite of his angelic visage.
Personality:
Tristran takes what he wants and lets no one stand in
his way. Although he often hides his behavior behind impeccable
manners, he is ruthless in both business and personal matters. If
someone either questions him or tries to stop him he makes it so
they will never do so again.
Family Relation: An elderly mother
Occupation: Earl
Background:
Tristran was the son of an infamous opera dancer. For
the beginning of his life he lived with the constant worry that his
mother would lose her beauty and they would be out on the streets.
Her most tumultuous affair was with the sixth duke or Redsford, who
was Tristran's father. On his seventh birthday his father's only
legitimate son and heir died. Because Tristran was almost identical
in image of his deceased half brother, and only a few months
younger, the earl decided to keep the death a secret and make
Tristran his heir.
After that his life took a complete turnabout. He now had everything
he could possibly need, with starvation never being an option. But
his early years and the influence of his selfish mother and father
shaped him into a man terrified of getting all he had gained taken
away from him. So to make sure that didn't happen, Tristran made
sure he was the perfect image of a gentleman and put everyone under
his control.
A few years into his second marriage Tristran met Lord Anthony
Upworth's cousin. Already tired with his beaten down wife, he took
an immediate liking to Amelia. However, she liked none of her
cousin's acquaintances and knew of his marriage because she had been
friendly with his wife. Even though he managed to get rid of his
inconvenient wife, Amelia still would have nothing to do with him.
When she got engaged to Damian, Tristran stepped in to terminate the
relationship. Furious when she still refused him, Tristran has been
unable to get into her good graces for five years.
Now that Anthony is finally about to become Viscount, Tristran is
sure his luck will change.
Peers Opinion:
Unlike Anthony, Tristran has successfully made the
entire ton either afraid of him or taken in with his good mannerisms
and looks.

Status: Widow
Appearance:
Gemma stands all of about 5 foot 6 inches, once the belle of Cork
County, life hasn't been good to her, her formally bright red hair has some
gray in it and the sparkle has dimmed from her eyes somewhat
Personality: She's a kind, gentle woman, looking to
make a new start away from everything she's known
Family Relation: n/a
Occupation: Baroness, but doesn't act like one
Background:
Gemma Jean
was only 20 when she met a dashing young man named Paul who swept her off
her feet, marrying her within a few month of their meeting. Life was very
good for them both, well, not really, every time she carried a babe in her
womb, she would lose the child, this had quite a toll on her and Paul. Who
would be there to carry on His name?
The losses caused a marked change in her, the youthful glow she has faded,
the love bewteen her and Paul still burned bright. That love kept her going.
Life is very strange at times and as if she hadn't enough pain thru the
years, her dear Paul took ill, she nursed him as well as she could, but it
was all for naught, he passed from this life just shy of her 29th birthday.
One day Gemma woke up, so very sick of all the whispers she heard behind her
back and the whole scandal that seemed to rise right after her husband's
death and since gotten worse. She spoke to her Husband's family, who said
they would deal with the sale of the estate.
After the estate was sold and everything settled, Gemma took off for London,
in hopes of a new life, in hopes of leaving the scandal behind, no longer a
raving beauty of her youth and now a widow, she hopes to find a new life,
away from everything she knows.
She would like to remarry and have children, in time.
Peers Opinion:
Well, she's left Ireland and everything she has known to get away
from the scandal in her life, she wants to start a new life. Of course, there might be some in London who have heard the whispers, the
untruths about her.

Name: Adam Hallowell, the Third
Age: 30
Status: Single
Appearance:
Adam has green eyes, slightly thinning brown hair that he
tends to wear a bit long to compensate, is a bit over six feet tall
and rather lanky. His left hand and forearm are permanently scarred
and limited in use from an accident in his youth in a military academy
while playing a prank involving gunpowder. Few see his handicap
because he wears gloves at all times. Most assume he is eccentric and
leave it at that.
Personality:
Adam enjoys people. He is active in several gentlemen's
societies, just because he is fascinated by how people's lives differ
even among the same class. It is much more likely to find him reading
a fictional novel than a treatise on how to better one's crop yield.
He has been content to be himself, getting enough money from his
father to survive rather nicely in London. Life has changed recently
for Adam, and he is a bit unsettled in what to do, but he isn't going
to let that stop him from having fun.
Family Relation: Father: Viscount Adam Hallowell, the Second, Mother:
Deceased Siblings: Jonathan (older), Tyler and Jacob (younger)
Occupation: Second son of a Viscount
Background:
Because of his injury, Adam was unable to go with his
younger brothers into the military. He writes them often and lives
vicariously through their descriptions. A rake when he was younger,
he'd fallen hard for a young debutante he'd seduced early last season,
then got to know after the fact. He asked for her hand, sure his
offer would be accepted. Unfortunately, her father didn't approve of
the match and sent her off to the country. No daughter of his would
marry a viscount's second son!
Two weeks ago the same father came
back and had a servant summon Adam, placed a cloth-wrapped bundle in
his arms and in a cold voice, informed him "That one and you killed my
Charlotte, I don't want to see either of you again," and left the
stunned man with a baby boy. Adam learned that Charlotte had died "of
a fever" while in the country. No one knew the two had been involved,
but now he had a child he didn't want or need. As much as he hated
it, he needed a wife to take on the mothering role of the baby that he
avoided like the plague- partially out of guilt. Of course, she had
to be special enough to make him curtail his roaming ways as well- at
least until they had reached an understanding about such things. His
rationale also includes not informing the lady she will have a child
to care for until she is his wife- it should make things easier in the
search.
Peers Opinion:
Peers see Adam as just another second son getting
himself into trouble. No one knows about he baby yet, because his
staff has been told to keep it quiet. His father sees him as flawed
because of his injury, and his brothers all see him as the lucky one,
because their father demands less of him.

Name: Baron Charles Philip Heston
Age: 48
Status: Recently widowed
Appearance:
At 6'0'' exactly Charles strikes an imposing figure especially considering his distinguished coloring. His once black hair has been dramatically streaked with silver and lends an air of pride and accomplishment to his aura. He is neither thin nor overweight but he has an unremarkable build, it is not something people notice or comment on. His posture adds to his character for Charles carries himself well, always standing straight and tall. He has a strong nose and his dark brown eyes seem to glare, giving his face the appearance of seeing all.
Personality:
Growing up a reserved child Charles has carried this habit into his adult life. He prefers to keep his opinions to himself and lets conversation roll over him rather than joining in. He is jealous of the ones he loves - especially his daughter now that his beloved wife has passed on - and does not hesitate to interfere in his loved ones life when he believes he knows best. Charles has a very sharp mind and enjoys academic pursuits but prefers to let others think he is of average intelligence.
Family Relation: Charles is the father of Isabela, his only child, and has recently been widowed by his wife of 23 years.
Occupation:
Charles was quite an entrepreneur as a young man and has built up a successful import-export business. Five years ago Charles became a silent partner, leaving the majority of the decisions to his nephew - recently graduated from a prestigious university in America.
Background:
Born the second son of a well-to-do couple living in London Charles was brought up with a good education and a solid foundation in the church. Charles graduated from university in Spain (his mother being Spanish and his grandfather owning an expanding shipping company based in Cádiz, Spain) and took a job in his grandfather's company. At the age of 23 Charles met his future wife, a lovely Spanish girl of 18 years by the name of Catalina Inéz Castillo y Valdez. Two years of courtship resulted in a loving marriage and several children - most of whom died before the age of 5. The only surviving child was a beautiful daughter, Isabela María Heston.
At the age of 28 his grandfather died, leaving the shipping company to a malicious cousin who promptly informed Charles of the termination of his job. Charles decided to go into business with his brother and started an import-export business that became thrived quickly. After 15 years of making incredible amounts of money Charles became a silent partner and left the everyday-to-day decisions to the son of his now deceased brother and partner.
Soon the Napoleonic Wars began to affect his life in Spain and with the outbreak of almost war regarding the king (was it Napoleon's brother or Ferdinand VII?) Charles packed up his wife and daughter and moved them to England to live by his dying sister and her family. At the age of 46 his beloved wife died and Charles was grief-stricken. He pulled himself together for the sake of his daughter but he has not been the same since.
Peer's Opinion:
Charles is respected by the international business community, having built up a prosperous business from scratch, and while Charles is charming he struggles a bit with large social functions, leading to one or two awkward experiences. His wife was the social one of the two and enjoyed planning Isabela's coming-of-age debutante party.

Name: Isabela María Heston
Age: 18
Status: Single - second year out (though her first year was only 3 weeks due to the death of her mother)
Appearance:
Isabela is classically beautiful - indeed her mother nicknamed her a 'Spanish Rose'. With thick, full lips and thick black hair Isabela is striking. With an hourglass figure Isabela is of average height, being neither too short, nor too tall. Isabela's favorite feature is her hands - slender, long-fingered, and soft hands.
Personality:
Isabela is an intelligent young woman who adores learning and helping out with charitable deeds - a habit she acquired from her mother. Isabela is happiest in the safety of her father's home where she knows his love will surround her and protect her from anything. She has spurts of being adventurous and daring but after a short time seems to fall back into cautiousness. Isabela seeks to befriend everyone for making enemies is extremely distasteful to her and she becomes terribly unhappy when someone is displeased with her.
Family Relation: The only surviving child of Baron Heston and his Spanish bride, Catalina Castillo de Heston
Occupation: A daughter of nobility
Background:
Isabela was born on the southern coast of Spain to two doting parents. She was given almost everything, being the first-born and the only surviving child out of 4 children. Her education is solid with an emphasis on languages (Isabela naturally speaks English, Spanish, and French, but also Italian and Portuguese- Italy and Portugal being Spain's geographical neighbors).
Of course, Isabela learned the traditional skills needed by a young lady of means but she never excelled drawing or painting but has passable skill in music - her voice being of passable quality and her piano skills good. In the move to England Isabela had her life change suddenly and Isabela resented the quick and sudden change. She was 13 and missed the surroundings of her mother's exuberant family.
After 4 years Isabela accepted her life in England and prepared her coming out party with her mother with great pleasure (whilst her father bemoaned the bills). But tragedy stuck three weeks after the gala ball and Isabela's mother died. Of course, Isabela and her father cancelled the remaining events for the season and grieved. Now that her father has purchased a new home in a lovely little town Isabela is ready for a new season and perhaps the possibility of finding a husband.
Peer's Opinion:
Isabela is accepted in society and viewed as a suitable match for the majority of eligible bachelors. Her lack of mother is 'clucked' about and her father's strictness is considered excessive. The matrons of society view her Spanish upbringing as delightfully continental at best and heathen at worst. Her superior skills in languages and innate intelligence are considered a bit overwhelming but fascinating in its own way.

Name:Nathaniel Felton
Age: 28
Status: Single, eligible - if one can catch him.
Appearance:
Nathaniel is not overwhelmingly tall, he's an average 5'10", but what he lacks in height, he makes up in girth. He is well-built and fills out a dandy tailored suit almost to perfection. A great believer in physical fitness, he exercises every day, doing several odd things such as carrying full, uncut logs around his property, riding bareback to improve leg strength, brisk walking and shooting to maintain good inner workings of his chest and breathing. All this has meant that unlike the more fashionable men of the ton who are lithe and often elfen-like in their appearance, he tends to look more like a brick outhouse, ie, quite solid. Because of his love of the outdoors, he always has a touch of the sun about his person and his hair is bleached, the usual nondescript brown boasting sandy highlights. His eyes are wide and hazel, giving an air of honesty to his countenance. His bearing lends the current fashions a little more of a rugged appearance as well.
Personality:
In all outward appearances, Nathaniel is extremely affable, however his open nature belies a far more callous personality. The man is a womanizer and unscrupulous businessman. Whilst he takes care of himself, his generosity does not often extend past those in his immediate family. If he cannot gain a profit from knowing a person, then that person is not worth his time or energy - except when he feels like having some fun. He delights in setting people up for the fall, whether it be ruining the reputation of a young lady or driving new businesses into the ground. He is a habitual gambler (it is a weakness) and will make a bet at the drop of a hat - and then does all he can to ensure that he wins that bet.
Family Relation: Mother, Lady Beatrice Felton and sister, Lady Antonia Felton, both living in the Cumberland estate. Father, Earl Gerard Felton, is deceased.
Occupation: Earl of Cumberland
Background:
Coming from an old line of Feltons, the Earldom is an old and prestigious title which brought with it many boons. Nathaniel grew up in a privileged household but it was through no fault of his parents that he grew to be the man he currently is. He was brought up with two loving parents and a little sister who doted on him and yet he still fell into a bad crowd when he was sent away to Eaton to study. In his late teens, he returned to Cumberland to help his father manage the estate and there he got his first taste of gambling - horse racing. He bought several fine racehorses and sent them around the country, often winning, sometimes losing. His father did not approve of his methods, but when the old Earl died, there was none who could put a stop to the wayward man.
Through his associations with the horse racing circuit, Nathaniel met several shady characters and through their influence, was drawn into an underground network of scammers and general no-good-doers. He eventually broke away in his early twenties after funding things like smuggling children in and out of the country, money laundering and the odd recreational drug, but the damage was done. Nathaniel knew how to get what he wanted when he wanted, and through his connections there was no way to stop him when he had his mind set on something.
He met and quickly became engaged to a young lady at the age of 24, and then promptly broke the engagement when, by the time of the wedding, the lady was no longer a maid. This was a convenient and entirely justified fault - even though it was one of his own making - and one that he has used several times with pretty ladies of no particular social bearing ever since. No doubt there are several children dotted around England who look a little like him.
Peers Opinion: For those who first meet him, he is all charm and good manners. Ladies tend to be a bit swoonish (in his personal experience) when he starts paying them particular attention. Fellow gentlemen seek his friendship, patronage and his advice. For those who have come off the worse for their experience with Lord Felton, they know better and keep away.
