90% of the information on this site was taken from the terrific book "What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew", by Daniel Pool. It's a fabulous, entertaining resource that looks back at the period of the 1800s and more famously, the Regency period (though there is some Georgian, Victorian and even Edwardian information thrown in).
